Burgundy Tasting Trip: Day 7

November 8th 2017

Corton-Bressandes-2016

Last night we drank a delicious Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos de La Marechale by Mugnier 2013 in the Bistro de l’Hotel. It was open and ready to go, and showed beautifully the purity of this underrated vintage. It didn’t last long! The seventh day of the tasting trip and we are driving south from Beaune town centre to Mercurey where we are tasting at Domaine Charton with Vincent.

Burgundy Tasting Trip: Day 6

November 7th 2017

Aire des Clos

We kicked off proceedings with an excellent dinner on Sunday night, starting with a sublime bottle of 2005 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre by François Raveneau – the wine, while being on the fuller, richer side for Chablis, was magnificent! Its flavour lasted long into the night and it goes down as one of my all time favourite white wines. If this doesn’t deserve to be Grand Cru, then I don’t know what does.

Lutum’s exceptional 2015s | Gap’s Crown Chardonnay and Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir

November 7th 2017

LUTUM-logo

A new wave of exceptional Californian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines are entering our shores. There are many reasons to take these wines very seriously; the very best are delicate, nuanced and extraordinarily beautiful and many show the grace, aromatics and complexity of their European counterparts. With decreased allocations coming from Burgundy, there could never be a better time to start exploring whats on offer.

Burgundy Tasting Trip: Days 4 & 5

November 6th 2017

I arrived late on Wednesday night to join David, Johnny, Tom and Jamie for an intense two days of tasting. With seven visits to work through on Thursday our palates had their work cut out. We began at Domaine Alain Michelot in Nuits St Georges. This relatively new addition to our portfolio offers a wide range of Nuits Premiers Crus as well as a clutch of other appellations across the southern Côte de Nuits.
