BUYING EN PRIMEUR
Buying wine “en primeur” refers to the process of buying wine before it is bottled and released to the market.
This is typically the most cost-effective way of laying down a cellar, and a purchase at this early stage guarantees provenance. When you eventually either drink or sell the wine you can be confident that it has not spent its life circumnavigating the globe, but remained in one place. It is also the only chance to choose the bottling format: since the wine is still in barrel you can select bottling in halves, magnums, double magnums and imperials. (A small further charge will apply for these non-standard options.) Finally, for those wines made in small quantities, this may simply be the only opportunity to buy.
You can choose wine for future drinking or for investment or both. We have a knowledgeable sales team who will recommend what to buy. There are no management fees so all your money goes towards buying great wine.
We recommend storing your wine with Private Reserves Ltd, our independent wine storage company set up by Johnny and Laura Goedhuis in 1988 which has grown to be one of the largest and most respected wine storage operations in the UK. For more information on Private Reserves Click Here
