New Release: Sesti Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Archive

A true Goedhuis Tuscan favourite, Guigi and Elisa Sesti, at Castello di Argiano on Montalcino’s warm southerly slopes, have created a magical Brunello in 2012.

In contrast to 2011’s forward appeal, the 2012 is a more complex version that will draw comparisons with the classically structured 2010. The fine, polished tannins are firmer than in 2011 but at the same time very silky, and the broad palate features an array of cherry, dried herb and mocha flavours. This is a wine that will evolve gracefully over the next 5-10 years.

Sesti_2The Brunello 2012 embodies all of the finest points of this warm year but is balanced with lovely freshness in the mouth. Sesti’s expert management of the grape canopies throughout the hot summer months and a slightly earlier picking date in order to retain acidity, were critical to their success.

Additionally I must highly recommend the 2015 Rosso di Montalcino, a mini Brunello, that is released onto the market for earlier drinking. 2015 is a fantastic vintage in the making providing a first insight of what is to come in 3 years’ time when the 2015 Brunellos are released.

Two superb wines fit for any cellar.

** Available for delivery from July 2017. Please note if buying for delivery Duty is currently £12.50 per 6 bottles, however it is probable this will increase in tomorrow’s budget.**

Deep ruby with orange rim. Beautiful depth and clarity on the nose with hints of graphite. Plush, multi-layered palate with fine, polished tannins, and loads of them. Gorgeous, tangy, deep-fruit finish. Closes up quickly, indicating that this needs time. 17.5 points, Jancis Robinson

Bright red. Aromas of bright floral red berries, minerals and fresh herbs. Youthfully chewy tannins provide backbone to the crisp red berry and botanical herb flavors. The long clean finish features a very strong savory quality. 91 points. Drink 2023-2032. Ian d’Agata
