Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2014 ‘The wine of the vintage’

Archive

With the Wine Advocate crowing this new release from Beaucastel as ‘Probably the wine of the vintage’ we had to draw your attention to the crown jewel in the Perrin portfolio, the amazing Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2014, which is of first growth equivalent in its appellation.

Beaucastel1Beaucastel’s Hommage à Jacques Perrin is a different animal from the estate wine in taste, feel, blend and price. The special cuvée is produced by using a much larger percentage of old vine Mourvèdre, which can be up to 60% of the blend depending on the vintage, as well as some old vine Grenache and Syrah.

Antonio Galloni say of the 2014: ‘an exotically perfumed bouquet evokes mineral-tinged dark fruit preserves and incense, and a sexy floral element gains power with air. Fleshy, seamless and sweet, offering intense blueberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors enlivened by juicy acidity.’

The production is quite small, and an average of just 350 cases are produced each vintage. So please do get in touch as soon as you can to secure an allocation.

We would also like to draw your attention to this estate’s more affordable wines the Châteauneuf du Pape and the famous Coudoulet Côtes du Rhône, with this pedigree of wine making these offer outstanding value. Please do get in touch with your account manager if you would like some further information. We have also listed the limited available stock of older vintages of Hommage below.

Probably the wine of the vintage (I feel like I say that every year for this cuvee), the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin is a substantial, full-bodied, shockingly concentrated 2014 that gives up classic notes of blackberries, blueberries, forest floor, beef blood and licorice. Mouth-coating and rich with building tannin, it will be approachable at an earlier age than most vintages, yet will still need 5-6 years of cellaring. 94-96 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Inky ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes mineral-tinged dark fruit preserves and incense, and a sexy floral element gains power with air. Fleshy, seamless and sweet, offering intense blueberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors enlivened by juicy acidity. The floral note comes back emphatically with air and carries through an impressively long, youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a smoky mineral note behind. The alcohol here is quite low for the region, clocking in at 14.3%. 93-95 points, Antonio Galloni
