Decanter recommends… Northern Rhone 2011

Archive

A flurry of Goedhuis wines in Decanter this month. From the Northern Rhone, John Livingstone-Learmonth (undoubtedly the most respected expert on the area) picks his top wines of the 2011 vintage. He particularly praises the southern end of the area – Hermitage and Cornas at the top end and Crozes Hermitage and St Joseph for value.

Côte Rôtie Clusel Roch 2011
£295 per 12 IB

Selected on value grounds over the more classy but 90% dearer Grandes Places 2011. Authentic terroir wine, full-on, manly, has life and depth. Combines freedom and force. Drink 2015-2026. 16.5 points.

Condrieu Coteau de Chéry André Perret 2011
£310 per 12 IB

Pure fruit elegance on the nose, a spiced muskiness. One of the finest Chéry’s I’ve ever tasted. Drink 2014 – 2020. 18 points.

Hermitage Bernard Faurie 2011
£225 per 6 IB

A mix of three sites, thisis entertaining – a slow developer. Dark aromas, grain and fat mix on palate, secure length. Drink 2017 – 2034. 18 points.

Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Gaby Domaine du Colombier 2011
£155 per 12 IB / £165 per 6 mags IB

Copious charged wine, has more intent and content than many, a bold glass filler. Drink 2014 – 2023. 17 points.

Cornas Vieilles Vignes Alain Voge 2011
£335 per 12 IB

Leading edge, complete Cornas 2011: sustained, deep bouquet. Dashing fruit in a broad, weighted palate. Drink 2015 – 2028. 18.5 points.
