There is little better for you than imbibing a few glasses of organic wine on a July morning and we have just had that pleasure….
Ch Léoube in Bormes-les-Mimosas, Provence was purchased in 1997 by the Bamford family (JCB and Daylesford amongst other interests! ) who then spent 10 years renovating this spectacular estate in Provence. They persuaded Romain Ott to become their wine maker, whose family have been making prestigious rosé for 3 generations in Provence. The results speak for themselves.
Not only did we get to taste the full range which is spectacular but we are also extremely proud and delighted to have been appointed a co-importer of this “Cinq Etoile” estate and look forward to sharing many bottles with you all!
65ha of vineyard are planted with Grenache, Cinsault and Mouvedre. Total production is around 300,000 bts of which 70% is rose, complemented by some world class reds including a notable “rule breaker” mimicking the celebrated Super Tuscan, Sassicaia. It is called “Collector” 2011 and we will release it in the autumn. A delicious white made from Rolle, Semillon and a splash of Ugni Blanc would be a natural with seafood.
Ch Léoube Rosé 2012 has a creamy texture having undergone full malolactic fermentation. Packed with strawberry and hints of grapefruit to freshen it up this is outrageously drinkable. We are trying to negotiate to be able to sell it under £ 15 a bottle including vat.
Complementing that is the most stunningly packaged “Le Secret de Léoube” – here the cépage differs being Grenache, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon. More structure here and substance, this is a proper food wine.
And finally two reds, the better of which for me is Les Forts de Léoube 2010. Lovely mulberry black cherry fruit and very easy to throw back – will be around the £20 inc vat.
