2004 Barolo in Decanter Magazine

Archive

In this month’s Decanter magazine the Barolo 2004s have been tasted and assessed. As we have highlighted previously, the 2004 vintage was one of the best ever in Barolo.

The almost perfect growing conditions enabled the often fickle Nebbiolo grape to flourish allowing its classic aromas of rose, tar, cherry and tobacco to shine through. With their intense, captivating perfume and huge structure these wines are still young and will certainly benefit from a few years cellaring.

Two of our wines received a 4 star rating and are highly recommended by Decanter:

Fratelli Revello, Vigna Gattera. £29
“˜Floral sensations, rose petals, spice, hint of mint. Lovely cherry-berry flavours. Long finish, decent acidity. Lithe, but firm tannins. Long. From 2011′. 16.8 points.

Fratelli Revello, Vigna Giachini. £36.90
“˜Perfumed, rose petals, complex. Smooth-textured, fresh with lovely, complex fruit character. Firm, but with good intensity of flavour. Long, rich finish. Excellent balance. From 2010′. 16.75 points.

Other wines that are recommended include Luigi Pira’s straight Barolo, Marenca and Margheria, Fratelli Revello’s straight Barolo and Vigna Conca and Cavallotto’s Bricco Boschis.
