Grande-Cuvee

Krug needs no introduction. It is the ‘DRC’ of champagne, the ‘last supper’ choice, a champagne that transcends all others, and their Grande Cuvée is one of life’s great pleasures. We are therefore very excited to share with you the new release of Krug Grande Cuvée, 164ème Edition.

It is a blend of 127 wines from 11 different vintages. The oldest wine stems from the gorgeous 1990 vintage; a bold and generous year giving depth, toast and rich golden fruits. The base wine around which this cuvée is crafted is the exceptional 2008 vintage; pure, elegant and focused with a dazzling expression of floral and citrus notes.

2008 is destined to become a legendary Champagne vintage and the exceptional Grand Cuvée 164ème Edition is set to be one that collectors around the world will seek out. As Olivier commented at a recent dinner, ‘every sip is the fruit of more than 25 years of patience and craftsmanship’.

To identify the composition of each release, Olivier Krug and his team have created a new label which will have a unique ‘Edition’ number clearly printed on the front. The first release of its kind was Edition 163. Edition 164 marks the 164th release of Grand Cuvée since the foundation of Maison Krug in 1843.

48% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 17% Meunier. Exceptionally fresh on the nose, with beautiful aromas of toasted hazelnuts, blossom, fresh bread and creamy nougat. Plenty of fine, elegant bubbles. The palate has a wonderful freshness and a lovely zip of citrus notes on entry which then mingle with the richness and toast of the tangy fruit giving gorgeous depth and length. This is currently a very elegant and youthful Grand Cuvée with an extremely exciting life ahead of it. It is drinking wonderfully now, but with cellar aging will grow into something even more complex and beguiling. Drink 2017-2023+
