An Exclusive Collection of Laurent Ponsot’s 2014s

A Domaine with a rich and long history, Domaine Ponsot was established by William Ponsot in 1872. At this time his major vineyard holdings were in Morey St Denis, Clos des Monts Luisants and Clos de la Roche. Three generations later it is now run by the enigmatic and passionate Laurent Ponsot, who had much to do in helping the FBI finally catch and imprison the infamous wine fraudster Rudy Kurniawan.Laurent-Ponsot

The Domaine now makes wines from 12 Grand Cru vineyards (among other 1er Cru and village wines) and has by far the largest holding in the famous Clos de la Roche vineyard. Laurent is a firm believer in natural viticulture and winemaking, he uses no new oak, and the wines always express their terroir.

What is it that makes Domaine Ponsot so special?
• One of the most sought after wine estates in France and the rest of the world
• One of the first Domaines to practise estate bottling in the 1930s
• Laurent Ponsot uses no insecticide or pesticide, and follows the rhythm of plant life, but does not claim to be organic or biodynamic
• The average age of the vines across the Domaine is 50 years old
• Only barrels over 10 years old are used for ageing
• Common characteristics: power, concentration, richness and spice

We are delighted to be Domaine Ponsot’s main UK importer having worked with the Domaine since 1979. This special relationship has enabled us access to a larger allocation of these exceptionally rare wines from the 2014 vintage.

Bourgogne Cuvée Pinson 2014
6x75cl £120
Shining bright purple colour, this is an open appealing style, with hints of spice and red cherry fruits. A forward drinking style, whilst very much reflecting the quality ethos of this great domaine.

Morey St Denis Cuvée des Grives 2014
6x75cl £240
Shining bright purple colour, this is a fresh vibrant wine, full of life and energy. Masses of flavours of raspberries and loganberries, this has great breadth and the sweet spiced finish, gives personality and real appeal at the end.

Morey St Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes 2014
6x75cl £425 | 3x150cl £465
Deep brooding style, layers of spice and dark wild black fruits. This is mouth coatingly full, with a ripe tannic structure helped by an uplifting freshness at the end. A very classy example of why Morey St Denis is gaining in reputation, vintage by vintage.

Corton Grand Cru Cuvée du Bourdon 2014
6x75cl £750
The 2014 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru has a modest bouquet, bashful at first but finding its voice with aeration; it offers attractive scents of orange blossom and lime zest, almond paste and plenty of leesy notes. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity. There is decent body and depth to this Corton-Charlemagne, perhaps a touch more “tropical” than others, but that is counterbalanced by the mineral seam that pokes through on the long finish. Excellent. Drink 2018-2032. 92-94. Neal Martin

Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2014
6x75cl £895
Lovely juicy aromas of damsons and sloes. This is a hugely layered wine, with the initial volume and breadth of fruit, flowing through into layers of spice and masculinity. A wine which really excites the palate and its long persistent finish, is strong proof to the quality of this fine Cote de Beaune Grand Cru.

Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée des Merles 2014
6x75cl £895

Merles means blackbird but I am not sure of its relevance to this wine… Hints of chocolate gateau and dark Moroccan spices on the nose. This is a full and concentrated wine, with a firmness of texture, which will reward patience and ageing.

Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
6x75cl £1,250
A humdinger of a cuvée, with its open aromas of spice, liquorice and dark loganberry fruits. A lovely balance between sweetness of fruit, freshness and great depth. Real Grand Cru stature, a class act in every way.

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes 2014
6x75cl £1,495
Dense dark blackcurrant colour. In the palate this wine is all about dark black fruit flavours, with layers of spice and subtle characteristics of vanilla pod. A wine which is both flashy and fleshy, highlighting the growing popularity for this famous Grand Cru.
