Sausages and Chateauneuf du Pape

Over Christmas we planned to have a barbeque on the beach with a few family friends but dare I say it, with the freezing fog these plans were aborted.

Instead we had a barbeque in the garden but did eat inside. The other upside was that we drank some seriously good wines. The star of the show, which went really well with the succulently cooked barbequed chicken and the sizzling sausages, was a magnum of 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Clos des Papes.

It really was absolutely fantastic. A truly great wine, lovely silky texture a wonderful sweet core of fruit and very very drinkable. It didn’t last long and was loved by everyone.
