A spicy, fresh and distinctly cool nose of red flowers, stone fruits and sandalwood nuances. There is fine intensity to the mineral-inflected and tension-filled middle weight flavors that display excellent delineation on the saline, clean and agreeably dry finish. Drink 2020+
The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras is a négoçiant wine, but Jean-Nicolas informed me that the domaine manages the vineyard entirely. This was harvested within the first two days. It has a pleasing pomegranate and wild strawberry scented bouquet that is well-defined, almost Vosne-like in style. The palate is well structured with crisp, tensile tannins, plenty of red berry fruit but it just needs a little more presence towards the finish. That might manifest during the élevage. Quite stylish, though I might drink this perhaps in the first six or seven years after bottling.
Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations.
