  • Goedhuis, May 2014

A gorgeous wine full of refinement and charm, with lovely fresh raspberry fruit aromas and flavours. A beautifully balanced style finishing with grace and elegance. Delicious.

  • Neal Martin, December 2013, Score: 90-92

The 2012 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a lush, well-defined, sensual bouquet with perfumed boysenberry, black cherry and blueberry scents reminiscent of Bonnes-Mares. The palate is underpinned by fine, tensile tannins and there is a wonderful silver thread of acidity. Quite compact towards the finish, this Griotte has good substance and length, probably deserving of 5-6 year in bottle before broaching. Very fine.

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 92-95

(from a .90 ha parcel). This is notably more aromatically elegant with its pretty nose of extract of red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and plum where added breadth is present in the form of spice, tea, earth and sandalwood hints. There is that lovely sense of underlying tension present on the medium weight plus flavors that display both stone and soil undertones that continue onto the balanced, classy and stylish finish. This is terrific though despite the refined mouth feel there is a very firm tannic spine that will require plenty of time to fully resolve. Patience required. Drink 2028+

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less

Griotte-Chambertin

Although the name Griotte-Chambertin comes from a word for a grill-pan inspired by the shape of the vineyard, locals and critics alike agree that there is an unmistakeable scent of cherries in this delectable wine. One of the nine Grand Cru vineyards to be found within Gevrey Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertins are wines of great power, complexity and longevity.
