  • Goedhuis, January 2014

Beautifully sweet generous dark chocolate coated fruit flavours. An immediate and exuberant wine, with lovely silky refined tannins. This wine shows huge poise and beautifully reflects the class of the greatest Grands Crus.

  • Neal Martin, December 2013, Score: 94-95

The 2012 Echézeaux Grand Cru is open and garrulous on the nose brimming over with ripe red cherries, wild strawberry and bergamot scents that are beautifully defined. The palate is very structured but you do not notice that thanks to the candied fruit on the entry that zips about the mouth, electrifying the senses and leaving it with a daring citrus kiss on the vivacious finish. Oh là là.

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 94

(from Les Cruots which is also known as Vignes Blanches). An extraordinarily spicy, fresh and ripe nose features notes of dark pinot fruit, floral, sandalwood and exotic pekoe tea. There is excellent phenolic maturity to the supporting structure that is remarkably fine-grained which adds to the overall sense of refinement present on the delicious yet powerful and altogether serious middle weight plus flavors that terminate in a gorgeously persistent finish. Like the Clos de Vougeot this is going to require ample cellaring for it to reveal its full, and considerable, potential. Drink 2027+

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less

Region

Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
