A standout in 2015, the Gorelli’s of Le Pottazine have crafted one of the finest wines that we tasted on our 2019 visits. The aromatics soar from the glass and there is an intense, multidimensional palate of crushed red fruits, wild cut flowers and green herbs. Wonderful freshness complements the finely textured palate. Put simply this has everything that you look for in a 2015 Brunello. Drink 2022-2030. Goedhuis & Co (October 2019)
"The Potazzine 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is immediately bright and energized. The wine is sprightly and lively. This is an elegantly medium-weight wine, but everything is in exactly the right place. Fresh acidity and snappy fruit flavors are followed by lighter touches of rose petal, cardamon, camphor ash and powdered licorice. These aromas are stacked tall and proud. Of special interest is that point of zesty medicinal herb that reminds you of the relatively cool climate and high-altitude positioning of Le Potazzine's vineyards. These special conditions are exactly why this wine performs so nicely in a warm vintage like 2015. The coolness of the growing site offsets the temperatures of the growing season."

Owned by the Gorelli family since 1993, Potazzine is the Italian name of a Tuscan bird (two of which adorn the label) but is often a term of endearment for children. Owner Gigliola Gianetti’s two daughters, Viola and Sofia were affectionately named ‘Potazzine’ by their maternal
Vineyards and maturation
Le Potazzine own two separate vineyards to the south east and south west of Montalcino at altitudes of 420m (2 hectares) and 500m (3 hectares). At the highest point the vineyards sit at the extreme of what is permissible for growing vines in Montalcino. Airflow therefore plays an important role, preventing any issues with rot in rainy years and cooling the vines in warmer ones.
Le Potazzine adopt the traditional approach to Brunello winemaking with maturation taking place in Slavonian oak for 36 months and then in bottle for a further 10 prior to release.
Style of the wine
The cooler climate is reflected in Le Potazzine’s harmony and finesse. The Brunello is a stylish wine of exquisite balance, freshness and elegance with a pronounced core of sweet red fruits.
