Burgundy 2017 En Primeur | Domaine Bruno Colin
2017 was an unqualified success for White Burgundy. In his First Thoughts blog David Roberts MW commented, "The white Côte de Beaune wines have benefitted from 2017’s even growing season. This was a warm but not heat-stressed vintage and they therefore have wonderfully bright fruit and citrus minerality, not unlike that which defined the 2014 vintage, but with a slightly broader mouthfeel, giving them additional appeal." While in Decanter magazine, Tim Atkin MW writes, "the best whites from Corton-Charlemagne, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, St-Aubin, Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet are outstanding."
Following on from last week's Chablis offer (which saw many lines selling out), we are delighted to offer the first of our white Côte de Beaune Burgundy 2017 En Primeur pre-releases with this brilliant range from Bruno Colin in Chassagne Montrachet.
Bruno’s estate is spread across an impressive 30+ different parcels in Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet and St Aubin. Since 2016 it has included the outstanding Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Remilly, passed on to him by his retired father, Michel. Bruno's cellar in Chassagne Montrachet is one of the prettiest in the region, and an excellent place to taste the extensive range of wines he makes.
After huge losses in 2016 the domaine is thriving in the 2017 vintage, having produced a much healthier yield. The 2017s are notable not only for their consistently high quality but also their diverse and discrete style. Bruno makes immediately appealing, accessible, delicious white wines with the tension to age. They have juicy stone fruit flavours and the naturally chiselled nuttiness of fine Côte de Beaune Chardonnay. His style is opulent yet refined, and never blowsy. He has excelled in 2017.
