Benjamin Leroux 2017 & Burgundy Podcast
When tasting in November we were highly enthusiastic about the 2017 red Burgundies, describing them as having, "magnificent balance, with beautiful sweet red fruit flavours... a soft, silky and subtle tannic mouthfeel, natural concentration. They are a wonderful reflection of their individual vineyard locations."
This assessment has been matched by the recent press coverage. Neal Martin comments, "The 2017 reds are very good, often excellent, and from time to time, bloody awesome." While Alan Meadows aka Burghound describes the wines as "wonderfully refreshing, transparent and graceful", adding further, "they are so delicious and refreshing that I predict you will be seduced."
In this, the first of a series of offers focusing on different producers, we wanted to highlight the superb, and excellent value, wines of Benjamin Leroux.
With twenty years’ experience, starting in the wine cellar of Comte Armand at the age of 15, Benjamin is now one of the most talented winemakers in Burgundy. He makes consistent, harmonious wines with purity of fruit in which the individual terroirs shine through.
His whole range excelled in 2017, with two of our highlights being his Vougeot Clos du Village and Vosne Romanée. Neal Martin concurs commenting: “Leroux has overseen a fine set of reds... there are some splendid offerings... the one strong offering at the “value” end is his largest cru, the 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village, or one of his own pet favourites, the Vougeot Clos du Village.”
We have small parcels of these excellent 2017s which are offered subject to availability and are worthy additions to your cellar.
