A lovely parcel of Echezeaux within the lieu dit of Orveaux; it is made up from vines planted by two different generations, the oldest in 1924 and more recently a second parcel in 1979 still impressive when your ‘young vines’ are 35 years old! Dense purple colour, this has masses of wild, dark fruits, combined with a sensation of gaminess. Amazing volume and texture, with great drive and energy at the end. An absolutely top cuvée.
Deep ruby color. An ultra-spicy and attractively fresh nose is composed by openly floral, Asian tea, plum and black currant scents. There is a lovely sense of energy to the fleshy and concentrated medium weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while delivering lovely depth and length. The Brûlées is excellent but this very firm and serious effort possesses better overall complexity and the mouth feel is sensational. Drink 2029+

The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru, like the Brûlée, was quite closed on the nose when I tasted it. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, slightly chewy tannin at the moment. This feels quite masculine, with a strong tannic backbone, nicely focused but in need of some serious bottle age. It needs to lighten up a little, stretch its wings and breathe. Drink 2018-2030
Domaine d'Eugénie was born following the acquisition of René Engel estate by François Pinault, alsoowner of Château Latour in Pauillac during the summer 2006. The estate is situated in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of La Côte de Nuits between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey Chambertin. This village is considered to be the treasure of big wines of Burgundy. The vineyard is about 6.5 hectares and extends onto the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot et Flagey-Echezeaux. The estate is managed by Frédéric Engerer who is the President at Château Latour in Pauillac.
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
