Robert Parker, June 2000, Score: 93
One of the greatest Grand-Puy-Lacostes ever produced, the 1982 still possesses a youthful, dense opaque purple color with slight lightening at the edge. The nose remains somewhat monolithic, but an intense black currant/creme de cassis-scented bouquet is backed up by roasted earth, smoke, and mineral notes. Full-bodied, muscular, and powerful, this opulently-textured, moderately tannic, youthful, huge Grand-Puy-Lacoste will benefit from another 2-5 years of cellaring. However, the wine's sweetness and low acidity provide plenty of joy at present. It will age well for at least another 25 years.Drink 2002-2027

Jancis Robinson, July 2002, Score: 17.5/20
Deep crimson with a thin, pale rim. Very minerally flavours. Not especially intense, but classic and complex. Thick, sweet and dense. Very creditable Pauillac. No hurry to drink. Needs powerful food. Drink 2003-2012

Clive Coates, September 2002, Score: 18/20
Fullish, vigorous, mature colour. Very lovely nose. Rich, full, mellow and classy. A fullbodied, fragrant, harmonious wine. Very ripe. More classy and less exotic than Lynch-Bages.Bags of life ahead of it. Ripe tannins. Very good grip. Splendid fruit. Fine plus atthe very least. Now-2015

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste
Grand Puy Lacoste sits on top of one of the steepest slopes in Pauillac, a whole 16 metres above the main flatlands! Hardly Himalayan, but the extra 16 metres of pebble-enriched soil results inparticularly excellent drainage. François-Xavier Borie is at the helm of this very impressive château which was purchased in 1978 from Monsieur Dupin.Region
Pauillac
Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
