En Primeur | Domaine Sérafin Père & Fils

The domaine continues under the name of Christian Serafin and his father, but has actually been run for some years by Christian’s daughter Karine and his niece Frédérique Goulley. The two cousins continue his mantra of exceptionally hard work in the vineyards: “without good fruit, you can never make great wine.” The domaine has a fine selection of very old vines. Frédérique destems 100% and she remains committed to the domaine’s signature philosophy of 100% new oak for the main cuvées. They work with two coopers, Taransaud and Francois Frères, and past vintages show that this approach makes wines with a fine ability to age.

Tasting in the chai, Frédérique explained that despite the warmth and early harvest on 23rd August, she was delighted that the alcohol degrees were not high, ending up between 12.5 and 13%. She feels that their vineyards really benefitted from having old deep-rooted vines, which didn’t show any signs of water stress during the summer and in the run up to harvest. We had an excellent tasting which highlighted the great quality of fruit that is always apparent in the Sérafin wines.

We’re limiting purchases to 1 or 2 cases per wine due to high demand. Please contact your account manager or wine@goedhuis.com to discuss larger quantities.

These well-placed vines produce a full rich Bourgogne Rouge with a Gevrey edge of dark fruit, game and wild autumnal forest flavours. Bags of personality, the length and bold fruit is given bite and energy by the zip of freshness on the finish.

This cuvée can be wrongly overshadowed by its bigger brother the Vieilles Vignes cuvée. This wine has really excelled in the warmer vintage of 2020. It is full of joy and richness. Barrel matured in 50% new oak and 50% one year old, it confidently displays dark Morello cherry flavours, with a touch of oak spice and cappuccino. Nicely layered with a poised finish.
