The finest vineyards of the Mâconnais are an excellent place to source high quality Chardonnay at reasonable prices. This has a sweetly perfumed stone fruit character, recalling juicy nectarines and white peaches, with floral notes. The 2016 has a fresh, racy lift cutting through the ripe stone fruit flavours.
Domaine Parisse is another label of the more renowned Domaine Thibert in Pouilly-Fuissé. Located in the heart the village amongst ancient stone buildings, Thibert's 20 hectares of vines surround theneighbouring countryside. They are one of the few domaines who produce multiple ‘lieux dits' whichcan be considered as honorary 1er Crus in quality. Their Pouilly Fuissés are wonderfully pure and mineral which are aged in seasoned and new oak barrels which never dominate the fruit but add lacy complexity and depth.
At the southern tip of the Mâconnais lies Pouilly Fuisse - one of a group of five villages amid rolling limestone hills producing the most serious white wines in the area. At their best this is serious Chardonnay indeed, golden, rich and ripe. There is no hierarchy of wines in Pouilly Fuisse, but the appellation name may be followed by the name of a specific vineyard.
