    The 2016 Lacoste-Borie has a gentle bouquet of blackberry, briar and a light marine-like scent. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannin and a little rustic in style within the context of the vintage, leading to an energetic, slightly peppery finish.     The 2016 Lacoste-Borie is a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, cropped at 50 hectoliters per hectare. It has a clean and precise bouquet, not as complex as some of its peers, yet with thoroughly enjoyable raspberry and blackcurrant leaf tinged with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, slightly dry tannin on the entry, hints of dark chocolate interlacing the black fruit with a touch of cracked black pepper on the finish.     The Lacoste-Borie 2016 is soft, pliant and inviting. This attractive midweight Pauillac will drink well with minimal cellaring. There is lovely purity and depth to the dark berry, chocolate and spice flavors, even if the wine is a bit slender in construction. Tasted two times.

    The nose is just perfect with bright blackberry juice notes and sensational pencil shavings - so classic. The mid-palate is smooth and polished with ripe fruit breaking through the whole with very attractive oak and also lovely amplitude. The finish is crunchy and refreshing with perfectly clean tannins and a snap of gravelly freshness. A sublime Lacoste-Borie with perfect balance and disarming immediacy, this is a wine which will sit alongside all of the First Wines in this commune with ease.

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Grand Puy Lacoste sits on top of one of the steepest slopes in Pauillac, a whole 16 metres above the main flatlands! Hardly Himalayan, but the extra 16 metres of pebble-enriched soil results inparticularly excellent drainage. François-Xavier Borie is at the helm of this very impressive château which was purchased in 1978 from Monsieur Dupin.

Region

Pauillac

Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
