Goedhuis, February 2024
Those in search of the standard-bearer for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc need look no further. This single vineyard Sauvignon from Marlborough is full of vibrancy and character, with a nose of fresh lime, zesty lemon, and toasted almonds. On the palate more citrus notes come to the fore, with a touch of grapefruit and a refreshing flintiness on the palate that keeps the finish feeling lively.

Born out of Benjamin de Rothschild's desire to create a leading Sauvignon Blanc, the Rimapere estate in Marlborough was chosen for its exceptional terroir and climate. The name of the property was a deliberate choice: it means 'five arrows' in Maori and simultaneously honours the Rothschild family's emblem and traditional New Zealand culture. Rimapere enjoys an incredible terroir. The vineyard comprises 24 hectares of vines that are ideally situated on the prestigious Rapaura site, known as the ‘Golden Triangle’, where the alluvial soil comprises mainly pebbles and gravel. Sauvignon Blanc is grown on 20 hectares and 4 hectares are kept aside for the cultivation of Pinot Noir. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, with an average age of around 15 years. This area’s cool climate is perfect for ripening high quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes and providing them with their typical lemon and grapefruit flavours, together with crisp acidity.Read less
Region
Marlborough
Situated at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island, Marlborough is now the country'slargest wine region. Since the 1970's when Montana started investing hugely in the area, vineyardplanting has continued apace and the number of producers is now over a hundred. The unique combination of long, sunny days, cool nights and dry autumns enables the grapes to reach maximum phenolic ripeness while retaining their acidity. Its Sauvignon Blancs, as personified by the crisp, smokily aromatic Cloudy Bay, are now world-famous. Fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are also grown.
