  • Goedhuis, December 2023

Sitting behind the hill of Corton, these vines are positioned within a sheltered combe which offers protection and warmth, ideal for managing temperature fluctuations. Flamboyant on the nose, with notes of frangipane and quince. A full, mouth coating style with an earthy structure. A full and concentrated wine, with excellent length.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2024, Score: 17.5

It’s funny how the ‘cooler’ vineyards managed to handle the heat and hang onto some semblance of minerality. Les Cloux is always a decent wine in the Rollin cellar, but in 2022, it showed ravishing precocity offset with classic, chalky, P-V minerality. This is a delicious wine, and it represents rare value for money.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 89

Mid yellow. The nose is a little lacking in detail at the moment. On the palate the Cloux offers a greater depth of fruit than the village Pernand but the oak is currently too strong and leaves a much softer feel at the back, as it damps down the expression of acidity. Fair length. I think it will come out of this though. Drink from 2026-2030.

Region

Pernand Vergelesses

With its neighbours, Ladoix Serrigny and Aloxe-Corton, Pernand Vergelesses has its own village and premier cru appellations but shares the two grand crus: Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay. The limestone marl soil is well-suited to growing Chardonnay and the resulting white wines are crisp and mineral with a good capacity for ageing. Pinot Noir is planted in areas of redder iron-rich soil and the best vineyards produce charmingly soft red wines with classic notes of raspberries and violets.
