Goedhuis, December 2023
This vineyard is tucked away in the very farthest northwest part of Gevrey and enjoys the cooling influence of its 350m elevation, which has helped to produce a very dynamic wine in 2022. Shining crimson colour, this is a very stylish wine, almost in a Chambolle mould, with ample volume and silky rounded tannins. A great lift of freshness on the finish gives both life and charm. Lovely.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, which was impacted by hail in this vintage and the previous one. It reflects that on the nose, which is not fatigued but doesn't convey the same sense of energy as other cuvées. The palate is what you might call a bit "bony," i.e., it needs a little more flesh on the finish. It's not bad, but a Premier Cru needs some recovery time. Drinking Window: 2026-2035.

Burghound, January 2024, Score: 88-91
From the Brochon side. An ultra fresh nose freely reveals its airy and distinctly cool aromas of red currant and forest floor. The middleweight flavours aren't as dense but they're finer with excellent precision on the dusty, compact and youthfully austere finale that needs to develop more depth. Drinking 2029+.

Jasper Morris MW, November 2023, Score: 90-92
Frost and hail in 2021, hailed again in 2022, so a much smaller crop here. A pure if lighter pink to ruby colour, with an engaging if not super concentrated fruit, on the nose and in the mouth. Lively acidity makes a fine backdrop and the fresh cherry and raspberry fruit has fine persistence. Drink from 2028-2034.

Louis is the seventh generation of vignerons in Burgundy from a family who is mostly known for their Côte de Beaune wines such as Pommard and Volnay however, several Côte de Nuits appellations including Gevrey Chambertin were added to the repertoire in 1978. Many of these are parcels of extremely old vines, and the wines have a natural concentration and silky persistence. Today Louis vinifies and ages his wines in Chambolle Musigny in the same cellar as his other half, Ghislaine Barthod. In fact, it has been said that his influences have helped create the celestial beauties that have risen from her vineyards. Both are ably assisted by their son, Clément. He has been instrumental in Louis Boillot’s recent purchase of vineyards in Beaujolais, Moulin à Vent, where these skilled Burgundians bring their expertise to the Gamay grape.Read less

Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
