  • Goedhuis, December 2022

From two relatively young parcels of vines, this is a fine Premier Cru facing southwest towards Pernand Vergelesses and Savigny lès Beaune. Bright brick red colour, a little shy on the nose, however on the palate it has a lovely crunchy crystalline fruit nature. Very lively and lots of energy.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 90-92

11 barrels for one hectare equates to about 25 hl/ha. Because Vercots has a heavy soil they put some extra fine pinot clones in this vineyard, which has paid off in the quality of the fruit. Slightly paler in colour but with some finesse. A savoury sandalwood touch to the oak this time, but the vineyard tannins are not fierce. Made with an agreeably light touch. Drink from 2025-2030.

The wines of Tollot-Beaut are some of the best we taste every vintage. Uncomplicated, pure and fresh, they epitomize everything that we love about wines from the Côte de Beaune. In addition, their fleshiness and approachability makes them perfect for cynics who claim that Burgundy is not their cup of tea. The 22-hectare domaine has been family-owned for years. Today, the young, friendly and exceptionally bright Nathalie Tollot manages the domaine with her cousins. The wines are vinified fairly traditionally. About 40% of the crop is de-stemmed, though this varies depending on vintage. The wines are fermented in open-top wooden vats before being aged in oak barrels that are 10-50% new. Very lightly fined and filtered before bottling, the resulting wines are often opulent with noticeable density, always clean and superbly pure. Just wonderful Burgundy.Read less

Region

Aloxe Corton

With its neighbours, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton has its own village and premier cru appellations but shares the two grand crus: Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majority of Pinot Noir is planted in thesouthern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from Aloxe-Corton tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
