  • Goedhuis, December 2021

Considered amongst the elite of 1ers Crus in Gevrey this is another higher positioned vineyard, some 300 metres above sea level. Erwan says if Lavaux is Béze, this is Chambertin, facing east in the same direction as all the great Grands Crus. Wonderful aromas of tayberry, nutmeg and cinnamon. It starts off so pure and refined and then, like a skilled orchestra, builds gently in the palate, showing subtle volume and power. This is truly exceptional and has the hallmarks of a great wine in the making.

  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 91-93

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a very well-defined bouquet with vivacious red cherries, strawberry and crushed rock aromas. This has a little more attack than the Lavaux, partly because of the low yields, under 20hl/ha. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a little creaminess in texture on the entry, very smooth with a slightly candied finish that just compromises its potential delineation. Still, this should drink well for 15- to 20 years. Drink 2026 - 2048

  • Burghound, January 2022, Score: 91-94

Once again there is a lovely sense of freshness to the more restrained, even brooding, dark berry fruit nose that is cut with hints of the sauvage and just turned earth. The dense, powerful and gorgeously textured larger-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and minerality before concluding in a complex, balanced and sneaky long finale. Excellent potential here. Outstanding. Drink: 2032+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 92-94

Bright vibrant purple, this is exuberant, wearing its heart on its sleeve. On the richer side, I was thinking possible 14% but Erwan confirms 13.5%. It has retained all its balance, and can offer a very pretty long juicy cherry finish.

Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
