Goedhuis, December 2021
Almost a 1-hectare lieu-dit within Grand Cru Echézeaux, Orveaux’s position on the slopes means it has relatively little topsoil and always produces a very fine wine. Beautifully vibrant red Pinot fruits, raspberries and strawberries. This is so graceful, subtle in character and supple in style. The tannins are lace-like, beautifully fine and the touch of glycerol gives some juicy sweetness. Quite simply a very lovely cuvée.

Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 92-94
The 2020 Echézeaux En Orveau Grand Cru (the lieu-dit has been stated on the label since 2018) has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with dark cherries, wild strawberry and raspberry fruit, the marl terroir coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, the 20% whole bunch imparting a pleasing peppery note and energy on the finish. This should age with style. Drink 2026 - 2050

Burghound, January 2022, Score: 91-94
Moderate wood influence frames the perfumed and elegant aromas of black cherry, hoisin, violet, lavender and exotic tea. Here too there is excellent mid-palate density and volume to the rich and opulent medium weight plus flavors that retain reasonably good detail on the austere bitter cherry-inflected and slightly warm finale that goes on and on. This isn't quite as complex as the Clos de Vougeot but that may well change if given adequate time. Drink 2032+

Region
Echézeaux
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
