  • Goedhuis, December 2020

One of the finest Premiers Crus in Nuits St Georges, located at the northern end of the village towards Vosne Romanée. Full of blackcurrants and summer pudding flavours, this is a silky-smooth wine. Gorgeously graceful, fine and rewarding, with uplifting freshness on the finish. Classy in every way.

  • Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 90-92

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Murgers 1er Cru was the most backward on the nose among the domaine’s 2019s, delivering sultry black fruit, loam and touches of damp leaves. The palate is nicely structured, more muscular than the Au Bas de Combe, and displaying fine mineralité, although it needs to develop just a touch more sustain on the aftertaste. It will certainly need 3–4 years in bottle before it shows what it can do. Drink 2023 - 2036

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
