  • Goedhuis, December 2019

A very arresting wine, with flavours of nectarine and fresh Jersey cream. The compact stony soil in this vineyard helps to produce a firmer and bolder style of Puligny. Tremendously intense, the oak is just a little apparent on the day of tasting, but this has great potential.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 91-93

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru comes from two parcels totaling 0.70 hectares, on deeper, more clayey soils than other crus. It has a strict and quite correct bouquet, very focused and stoic at the moment, with flinty, petrichor aromas reluctantly emerging from the glass. The palate is very well balanced, offering pretty orange zest, quince and hints of pawpaw on the entry. A little spicier than Sauzet’s other Premier Crus and commendably persistent on the finish. Very fine and good aging potential. 2022 - 2040

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 90-93

An overtly floral mix reflects notes of acacia, lilac and rose petal while exhibiting additional notes of spiced pear and apple compote. The succulent yet elegant and refined medium-bodied flavors coat the palate with dry extract while delivering excellent length on the more tightly wound finale. This is also very well-balanced and should have no problem aging gracefully. Drink 2028+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 93-95

Delicious lemon and lime colour with a very classy balanced nose. Lovely weight on the palate, the clay has not been allowed to speak too much but shows in the weight of fruit on the very fresh finish. Excellent aftertaste, showing very well today.

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
