  • Goedhuis, December 2019

The monopole Clos de l’Arlot is four hectares in total, and two of those on the higher slopes are planted with Chardonnay. This cuvée is made from the older vines, whilst the younger vines are bottled under the Gerbotte label. Hints of grapefruit and fresh butter, this is a more intense version of the Gerbotte. It is a little bolder with more body and flesh, while still retaining the vineyard’s characteristic elegance and grace.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 90-92

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de l’Arlot Blanc 1er Cru is matured in 20% new oak. It has a well-defined and fragrant bouquet, subtle scents of marzipan and orange pith unfurling with aeration. The well-balanced palate offers orange peel and a touch of bitter lemon on the entry. This delivers more weight and a little more density than the La Gerbotte, finishing with pleasing salinity and a hint of toffee apple. Give it a couple of years in bottle. 2022 - 2035

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 88-91

A cool but ripe nose consists of ever-so-mildly exotic notes of citrus, pear liqueur, floral and a hint of grapefruit. The succulent, round and appealing vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess good length if only average complexity on the citrus-inflected finish. This too will need to develop more depth, but it appears to have the necessary stuffing to do so. Drink 2023+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 90

From vines planted in 1956 and 1984. Light pale yellow. The nose is gentle, quite floral, less citrus. There is clearly more flesh here, compared to La Gerbotte, with an excellent backbone beneath. Weight of just ripe white peaches on the palate, nice balance of fruit and acidity to finish.

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
