Goedhuis, November 2019
A wine very true to the traditions of Clos de Vougeot. This shows both masculinity and substance. Muscular and powerful, the 2018 has masses of deep, concentrated dark black fruits with layers of spice and dark olives. Incredibly full and very persistent on the finish.

Burghound, January 2020, Score: 91-93
A relatively elegant, ripe and airy nose combines notes of red cherry, raspberry, earth and a pretty spice wisp. The rich and full-bodied flavors evidence very good power on the firmly structured, complex and impressively persistent finish. This too is old school in style, though not especially rustic, and like the Corton is built-to-age.

Wine Advocate, June 2020, Score: 92-94+
The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is showing well, bursting with aromas of cassis, plums, forest floor and spices. Full-bodied, firm and muscular, with lively underpinning acids, this is a chewy, broad-shouldered wine that's promising, but it will require patience. This derives from one parcel in the lieu-dit Petit Maupertuis and another located below the Château de Latour.

Decanter, June 2020, Score: 95
Domaine Ponsot makes its Clos de Vougeot from three parcels, two in the lower part of the vineyard and one in the middle. Plush, textured and well upholstered, it's all about bramble and raspberry fruit and fine tannins rather than oak or extraction. Rich and ripe, yet appealingly poised, this is one of a series of impressive Grand Cru bottlings in 2018.

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less
