Goedhuis, December 2017
Strong scent of dense Black Forest fruits. This is a full mouth-coating style, with a delicious volume of dark berries. The tannins are ripe and full and provide a sophisticated structure to this fine example of one of the Côte de Nuits’s most famous villages. Beautifully ripe, full and long.

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 89-91
Here the expressive and well-layered nose combines notes of various red berry aromas, and in particular wild currant, with those of earth and a smoked meat nuance. The rich, juicy and generously proportioned medium weight flavors also possess excellent complexity on the vibrant and well-balanced finale. This firm effort is relatively refined for a Gevrey villages though note that even though the tannins are fine-grained, they're dense so again at least some patience is required. Drink: 2024+

Decanter, January 2018, Score: 89
Notes of creamy wild berries and dried flowers introduce a sapid, full-bodied wine with good amplitude, concentration and cut, structured around fine-grained tannins. Like the Fixin, its only fault is that it follows such an extraordinary range of Marsannays during our barrel tasting. Drink 2022-2035

Jancis Robinson, January 2018, Score: 16
Bright, pale crimson. Rather light nose and lighter and simpler on the palate than the Clos du Roy. Something to chew on but a tad simple. Drink 2022-2030

Indeed, the commune has 14 lieux-dits which have been proposed to the INAO for a long overdue upgrade to 1er Cru status. Whilst this might not be immediate, it reflects the respect that Marsannay and its best vineyards are rightly held in today.Read less

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
