Antonio Galloni, February 2020, Score: 93-96
The 2016 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno is powerful, wild and beguiling from the very first taste. Rose petal, mint, sage, anise, crushed flowers and graphite give the 2016 an element of exoticism that is impossible to miss. Michet clone, prevalent in this site, yields a Barolo with uncommon complexity and volume, as well as pedigree to burn. The tannins are going to need time to soften, but there is so much to like here. A wine of stunning beauty, the 2016 San Lorenzo is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the year. I loved it.

Jancis Robinson, February 2020, Score: 17.5
Verduno. Gorgeous, expressive, earthy-savoury cherry fruit with great focus. Concentrated, multi-layered and with fantastic acidity streamlining the fruit. Marzipan-tasting, deep tannins. Hedonistic. (WS)

In the small medieval village of Verduno lies the historic Fratelli Alessandria cellar. The family has tended vines in the region since the beginning of the 19th century and today their 12 hectares stretch over some of the best crus in Verduno and also Monforte. This is a true family affair, Gian Battista Alessandria and his wife Flavia tend to the vines while his brother Alessandro and his son Vittore are in the winery. Together, they craft high-quality artisanal wines from the Nebbiolo grape variety but also from some Dolcetto, Barbera and the little-known Pelaverga variety. The Barolos from the village of Verduno are highly distinct and can be lighter, lacier and more elegant than those from other villages.Read less

Region
Barolo
With Brunello in Tuscany, Barolo is undoubtedly Italy's finest wine producing region. Located in Piedmont in the north west of Iataly Barolo is comprised of 5 major communes - Barolo, Monteforte d'Alba, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba - though the latter three tend to represent the main styles of the region. The wines are compelling and polished - an exemplary expression of the Nebbiolo grape. DOCG law requires a minimum ageing of 2 years in cask or barrel yet can be longer depending on the producer. Barolos are generally released four or more years after the vintage.
