Tasting Notes

    Neal Martin, April 2017,
    Score: 91-93

The 2015 Richebourg Grand Cru was very tight on the nose when I tasted it. It did not seem to express the aristocratic nature of this formidable grand cru—perhaps a little emasculated? The palate is better with firm tannin, a clean line of acidity, focused and here beginning to convince the pedigree of the vineyard. The finish is very well defined and the persistence very long, but returning to the aromatics they still seem to be on stand-by mode. Let's see how it will show from bottle. 91-93/100. Drink 2020-2035

Producer

Domaine Anne-Françoise Gros

The name Gros is one of the most famous in the Côte de Nuits, synonymous with great Vosne Romaneé. The original Gros domaine is now divided amongst four family members. Anne-Françoise, daughter of Jean Gros, married into another great Burgundy dynasty, the Parent family of Pommard. In 1998 François Parent and Anne Françoise combined their domaines to create a superb 10 hectare property comprising some of the finest terroirs in the Côte d’Or. Today their children Caroline and Mathias run the estate, with Mathias ever experimenting and pushing boundaries in both vineyard and cellar.

Region

Richebourg

Richebourg is one of the six Grand Cru vineyards in Vosne Romanée consisting of 8ha which is shared between 10 producers including Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat and Domaine Meo-Camuzet. Richebourg is based mainly on limestone deposits with some clay making the wines robust and voluptuous with a long life expectancy
