  • Goedhuis, December 2016

Caroline Gros likens her Echezeaux to James Bond, sophisticated but with a dark side! I have tasted this amazing wine on two occasions and both times it has shown what extraordinary quality these 93 year old vines achieve. Deep opaque colour, the aromas are so perfumed with hints of damsons and loganberries. This is harmonious, graceful and refined and yet so layered with extraordinary depth. A truly class act. Sensational.

  • Burghound, April 2017, Score: 91-94

A beautifully well-layered nose offers up an abundance of spice and floral elements that add plenty of breadth to the mostly red berry liqueur scents. The seductively textured big-bodied flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the firm tannic spine shaping the lush, opulent and wonderfully persistent finish. This beauty should drink reasonably well young but have no problem rewarding extended cellaring.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2017, Score: 17.5

Cask sample. 100% new oak. Mid cherry. Super-subtle on the nose. Really shy in its dark-fruited nature. Lovely sweetness on the palate, oak sweetness, I would say, but the dark fruit meshes well with the oak. Elegant, dry, long. Drink 2025-2040

Region

Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
