  • Goedhuis, December 2016

Yet another wine from this large Grand Cru that highlights the extraordinary success of this vineyard in 2015. A hugely intense wine, with very bold black fruit flavours and hints of mocha and spice. The tannins have a suave silkiness to them, and it finishes long and powerful.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 92-94

The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru finished its malolactic earlier than other cuvées this year and there is a tiny stem addition in the final blend. It has a well-defined, quite pure and floral bouquet that gains intensity in the glass. The palate is quite dense on the entry, sinewy in the mouth with crunchy red and black fruit, a little hardness towards the finish, although that will soften by the time of bottling. This is a classy, quite sophisticated Clos de Vougeot, although I found more flair expressed by the Echézeaux at the moment. Drink 2020-2040

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 92-95

his is also notably ripe but attractively fresh with its array of various dark berries, earth and a pretty violet nuance. On the palate the generous, muscular and equally rich flavors possess a sleek mouth feel while delivering super length on the once again irreproachably well-balanced finish. The Méo Clos de Vougeot is rarely a big wine in the context of what is typical for the appellation yet the 2015 version is definitely bigger and more powerful than usual. Drink 2032+

When Jean-Nicolas Méo arrived in 1989 he had very big shoes to fill. Henri Jayer, arguably Burgundy’s preeminent vigneron, had managed the domaine for the previous four decades under a share-cropping agreement with the Méo family. Since then Jean-Nicolas has more than met the challenge. Following meticulous viticultural and winemaking practices he creates wonderful wines with fine levels of concentration, and today, almost three decades since his ascension, it ranks in the upper echelons of the Burgundy firmament. The majority of wines are red, ranging from Bougogne Rouge up to their ultra-famous Cros Parantoux and outstanding Richebourg. But Jean-Nicolas also makes a miniscule production of white wine. He began planting the Chardonnay for his Clos St. Philibert on steep slopes overlooking Nuit St. Georges over 25 years ago from carefully selected Chardonnay clones. Domaine Méo-Camuzet has expanded its line of 'vins de négoce' in recent years. These wines are bottled under the 'Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs' label.Read less
