Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2014
The stony soils of Longeroies have created a wine with strong Morello cherry aromas. In the palate the natural sweetness of fruit is supported by crisp and tightly integrated tannins. A wine with drive and life.
-
Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 89-91Here too soft wood frames the perfumed aromas of black cherry, dark currant and subtle earth nuances. There is a suave and relatively refined mouth feel to the saline and mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that tighten up considerably on the firm, palate coating and impressively persistent finish that exhibits touches of rusticity and austerity. Unlike the Clos du Roy this will need a few years of bottle age first. Drink 2020+

Domaine Charles Audoin

Rugby-loving Cyril is the 5th generation of Audoins in the commune of Marsannay, the Côte de Nuits’ most northerly appellation covering 400 hectares. Today Marsannay is rightly gaining the recognition it deserves as a fine source of high-quality red wines, not least thanks to Cyril’s efforts, amongst others. Indeed, the commune has 14 lieux-dits which have been proposed to the INAO for a long overdue upgrade to 1er Cru status. Whilst this might not be immediate, it reflects the respect that Marsannay and its best vineyards are rightly held in today.
Region
Marsannay
The most northerly appellation of the Cote d'Or, Marsannay is also the only appellation authorised to produce red, white and rose wine. Only created in 1987, this is an interesting area where quality is improving. Top producers include Bruno Clair, Meo-Camuzet and Denis Mortet.
