Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2014
Always quite a wild sauvage style of wine, this is possibly a little less flamboyant than some years and slightly more masculine, with its dense flavours of liquorice and currant fruits. Tightly integrated tannins, ending with brightness and freshness.

Neal Martin, December 2014
The 2013 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a sensual bouquet in the making with ample ripe black cherries and blueberry on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with clearly a lot of toasty new oak that dominates the back end. It needs more fruit to be able to support this, which is why I will defer judgement until the Grand Cru is in bottle.

Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 92-94(from a superbly situated 1 ha parcel high on the hill). A pungent nose is composed of reductive aromas and oak toast. There is excellent intensity to the big-bodied flavors that are underpinned by phenolically mature tannins and an abundance of dry extract that serves not only to buffer the firm structure but also to impart a velvety mouth feel to the serious, long and moderately austere finish. Patience will definitely be required. Drink 2027+

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Region
Bonnes Mares
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
