Goedhuis, January 2014
Typically Vosne, with its open red cherry fruits. This is clean and pure, aided by delicate tannins and a nice juicy richness in the mouth. A lovely, approachable style, for which father and son Cathiard have become famous for.

Neal Martin, December 2013, Score: 88-90
The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from four parcels, two in "Champs Goudins" and two others in "Les Chalandins". It has a very refined bouquet with lifted wild strawberry, redcurrant and minerals that frankly punching the same weight as a premier cru. The palate is showing a bit of wood at the moment but there is plenty of substance here with a citric freshness on the finish. There is a bit of bravado about this village cru. I like it.

Burghound, January 2014, Score: 89-91
Here too there is enough reduction to suppress the fruit though the natural Vosne spice is still perceptible. There is lovely purity and transparency to the reserved and cool middle weight flavors that possess both good detail as well as a subtle minerality on the linear and mildly austere finish. Like the Bourgogne the mouth feel is quite refined thanks to the fine grain of the tannins. Drink 2018+

Jancis Robinson, January 2014, Score: 16.5
Two-thirds new oak. Four parcels in two lieux-dits, not the best placed: Chanondins, Champs Goudins. Just below La Colombière by Anne Gros’ cuverie. Sweeter than many Vosnes. The freshness comes on the palate. Some nerve and muscle there. Fresh finish. Lots of pleasure. Needs a little while. Drink 2018-2026

Sylvain Cathiard is one of the top growers in Vosne Romanée, a region not shy of exceptional talent. He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region
Vosne Romanée
The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
