Neal Martin, November 2014, Score: 92
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Limpid in color, de Vogüé’s Bonnes Mares 2011 has quite a precocious bouquet with black cherries, cassis and crushed violets that demonstrates impressive clarity. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet ripe black cherries and cassis fruit underlying minerality. It feels backward compared to two other Bonnes-Mares ‘11s tasted alongside, although there is impressive persistence on the precise finish. This is a classy Bonnes-Mares, albeit one that I feel is surpassed by the succeeding vintage. Drink 2016-2035

Burghound, January 2014, Score: 92
A strikingly well-layered nose displays notes of dark berry fruit, flowers, spice and earth scents. There is fine richness to the round and again quite voluminous middle weight plus flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in muscular finish that displays excellent persistence. This is relatively refined in the context of what is typically a robust appellation thanks to the very fine grain of the supporting structure. Drink 2026+

The vineyards spread to 12.5 hectares. They, amazingly, adapt their techniques depending on the conditions of the particular vintage, and rather disparage those who have a single "best" technique every year. This, hopefully, allows a purer expression of the raw material and vintage.Read less

Bonnes Mares
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
