  • Goedhuis, January 2011

Beautifully poised in every way, this 2009 is an impressive wine at such a young stage, displaying seductive flavours of juicy red cherry and loads of finesse. This is rather more ethereal and lifted than the Clos des Forêts, and it reaches further in terms of complexity and length. Graceful and fine-tuned - like watching stones skipping across a smooth lake.

  • Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 87-89

This Suchots has a fine, earthy bouquet with much better fruit concentration. The palate has a tannic entry, good grip but just lacking a little flesh towards the finish. Not showing well here.

  • Burghound, January 2012, Score: 93

An elegant, pure and ultra-spicy if discreet nose is both quite floral and high-toned with primarily red berry fruit aromas in evidence. The seductively textured and wonderfully intense flavors display a subtle mineral-streak that extends to the naturally sweet, long and palate staining finish. This genuinely stunning effort is not as tight as the Forêts and should drink well a few years earlier. Drink: 2019+.Notes: from vines of 15 to 50 years of age.Comments: outstanding!

Smells of beef extract. Then good fruit on the mid palate. Lively. Much the best of the wines from this address but still a bit aggressively chewy. Not refreshing enough.

Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
