Burghound, April 2011, Score: 92-95
A mildly floral and intensely spicy nose features notes of violets, rose petal, hoisin, soy and anise that add excellent breadth to the red currant aromas. The rich, detailed and utterly seductive medium-bodied flavors possess striking complexity to the impressively long finish. As good as this is, and it is spectacular, it doesn’t quite have the sheer depth of material of the Richebourg even though it’s close. 2024+.

Lucien Lemoine is the name of the micro-negociant operation founded by Lebanese husband and wife team Mounir and Rotem Saouma. Mounir used to live and work in a monastery but left to study Oeonology and pursue his passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Several years living and working in Burgundy helped Mounir learn the ropes while wife Rotem orientated her studies in Dijon towards wine. Mounir's time in the Cistercian monastery is the inspiration behind the name of their operation: 'le Moine' means monk in French and Lucien was the name given to him by the monks. Lucien Le Moine sources exclusively premier cru or grand cru vineyard parcels and raises them in their vaulted cellars in Beaune, bringing a maximum of 100 barrels to the market each year.Read less

Romanée Saint Vivant
Romanée-St-Vivant, which takes its name from the monastery of St-Vivant founded in c. 900, is a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. It is the largest of Vosne-Romanée's six Grands Crus and produces red wine only. The vineyard is located on the slope to the north of the town of Vosne-Romanée and is the nearest vineyard to this village. Romanée-Saint-Vivant's soils are deep and rich in clay and lime, which means the wines of Romanée-St-Vivant are usually lighter and less powerful than its neighbours'. Domaine de la Romanée Conti is the largest proprietor, owning over half of the area's 9.5 ha.
