Goedhuis, January 2011
Clos de Vougeot seems to be one of the stars of the vintage and actually has been in the limelight over the past 5 vintages (all those jokes on its ‘second-rate'quality and the location of agrower's vines will hopefully be silenced once and for all). Aromatic notes of roasted coffee, darkchocolate and black cherries contribute to this 2009's lower octave. It finishes incredibly velvetyand long.

Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 90-92
This has a rather lightweight, earthy bouquet that lacks fruité at first, yet it gains intensity and gains a floral tone with aeration. The palate has a juicy entry, sappy red-berried fruits with an edgy, earthy finish that shows good definition. This Clos Vougeot improves as it goes along but never really “fires up the engines”.

Burghound, January 2012, Score: 94
A moderately floral nose speaks of wood spice, pungent earth and freshly crushed red currant aromas that precede the big-bodied and powerful flavors that possess real verve on the well-defined, intense and balanced finish. This genuinely wonderful effort is relatively fine for a Clos de Vougeot and there is less youthful austerity than is typical. 2021+.

Jancis Robinson, January 2011, Score: 18
Light crimson. Relatively light nose. Lots of bright fruit. Kept in check with some grand cru subtlety and intensity. Still quite painful to taste at this early stage but clearly there is lots of potential here.

Tim Atkin, February 2011, Score: 95
A wine with the structure to age well, this is quite dense at the moment with plummyblack fruit and chocolate on the palate, toasty coffee bean oak and impressivetexture.

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less
