Goedhuis, April 2010, Score: 89-92
Aromatic, lifted and focused, this 2009 delivers a earthy, ripe and chewy palate of sweet fruit and roasted coffee. Finishes firm and long. A masculine style for Du Tertre.

Neal Martin, March 2019, Score: 92
The 2009 du Tertre has a very ripe, rather smudged and over the top bouquet. This feels a little one-dimensional at the moment. The palate is much better with pure black cedar-infused fruit, a touch of pencil lead and gentle grip towards the precise finish. I suspect the aromatics are going through a sullen phase, it will come through on the other side, so give this another couple of years in bottle. Tasted at BI Wines Spirits' Ten Year On tasting.

Robert Parker, February 2012, Score: 92
A seductive, opulent, textured Margaux with notes of licorice, black fruits, asphalt, pen ink and truffle, this is one of the finest du Tertres ever made. It has a hedonistic quality to it, but at the same time, there is great class, precision and freshness to this full-bodied, concentrated, but very supple-textured wine. Drink it over the next 20+ years. Drink: 2012 - 2032

Robert Parker, April 2010, Score: 90-92
A very sexy, seductive style of wine has been produced by Du Tertre in 2009. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by ripe notes of red and black fruits intermixed with subtle smoke, ink, and damp earth. The lusciousness continues on the palate with an opulent, layered, rich mouthfeel. Medium to full-bodied with not a hard edge to be found, but plenty of ripe tannins, the overall impression is one of a hedonistic and intellectually pleasing claret that should drink beautifully for 20+ years. This is a sleeper of the vintage among the classified-growths. Drink: 2010 - 2030

James Suckling
Floral and perfumed, with blackberry and blueberry. Full and silky, with a lovely finish. Balanced. Lovely chocolaty character and texture. Big improvement. 55 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 22 percent Merlot, 15 percent Cabernet Franc and 8 percent Petit Verdot.

Jancis Robinson, April 2010, Score: 17.5
Lightly treacly nose. Interesting. Very different sort of nose. The fruit is kept in check - not too aggressively sweet. Tamped down to provide much more of a classic Margaux style but with lots of pleasure. Very cool indeed.

Region
Margaux
Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
