Goedhuis, April 2008
The most feminine and round of Giampaolo's cru wines, the 2004 Margheria is rich and velvetyoffering up a hedonistic mouthful of exotic souk spice and ripe cherry. Plump, curvy and alluring. Like a belly dancer. Completely mesmerising. 2011 - 2024+.

Wine Advocate, December 2007, Score: 93
The 2004 Barolo Margheria represents a powerful, classic expression of Serralunga Barolo. A massive wine, it possesses plenty of fruit supported by imposing structural material, showing superb energy, purity and focus. It is the finest Margheria from Pira I can recall, yet it will require substantial patience. It is aged in a combination of 500-liter barrels and larger casks. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.

Like many present day winemakers in Piedmont, after years of selling grapes and bulk wine, the Pirafamily decided to go it alone. Particularly as our Italian and Gianpaolo's English are extremely limited. Yet, like most cross cultural love affairs, ourcommunication just seems to work. Wine really does work magic in more ways than one.Read less
Region
Barolo
With Brunello in Tuscany, Barolo is undoubtedly Italy's finest wine producing region. Located in Piedmont in the north west of Iataly Barolo is comprised of 5 major communes - Barolo, Monteforte d'Alba, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba - though the latter three tend to represent the main styles of the region. The wines are compelling and polished - an exemplary expression of the Nebbiolo grape. DOCG law requires a minimum ageing of 2 years in cask or barrel yet can be longer depending on the producer. Barolos are generally released four or more years after the vintage.
