  • Goedhuis, December 2015

Layers of autumnal fruit flavours, damsons, blueberries and sloes. This Clos de Vougeot has real charm and beautifully sweet volume, with a touch of opulence and a fine weighted finish. Top class.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 89-91

The 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru feels just a little timid on the nose at first and needs some coaxing from the glass. The palate is better with more material than the nose implies, the acidity well judged, but it does not quite flow like the best Clos Vougeot that I have encountered this vintage, or indeed the domaine's superlative Corton 2014s. Drink 2017-2030

  • Burghound, January 2016, Score: 92-95

Once again there is first-rate complexity to the cool and well-layered array of soft floral-inflect aromas of red berries, earth and a discreet whiff of tea. I very much like the sense of underlying tension on the supple and relatively refined middle weight flavors thanks to the fine-grained tannins that shape the balanced and harmonious finish. This sleek beauty should amply reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2026+

  • Sarah Marsh, December 2015, Score: 19.45

Expressive dark fruits aroma. Very spicy, slightly exotic and ripe. Full on the attack. A wine of volume, but is not weighty. It has much breadth, but is nicely contained. There is a sweetness of fruit here. 12.5, so it is not heavy in anyway. It is fresh. The tannins are more refined and quite spicy and there is a tension and spice at the end of the palate. Score 19.45 !This sample was a blend of the large parcel below the castle and Le Grand Maupertius. Sometimes Jean-Nicolas releases the 2 cuvees separately. T”he vineyards are very different..in the big parcel near the castle the soil is very shallow..you hit rock quickly. while in the other part you can dig 2 metres…sedimentary soils.”

When Jean-Nicolas Méo arrived in 1989 he had very big shoes to fill. Henri Jayer, arguably Burgundy’s preeminent vigneron, had managed the domaine for the previous four decades under a share-cropping agreement with the Méo family. Since then Jean-Nicolas has more than met the challenge. Following meticulous viticultural and winemaking practices he creates wonderful wines with fine levels of concentration, and today, almost three decades since his ascension, it ranks in the upper echelons of the Burgundy firmament. The majority of wines are red, ranging from Bougogne Rouge up to their ultra-famous Cros Parantoux and outstanding Richebourg. But Jean-Nicolas also makes a miniscule production of white wine. He began planting the Chardonnay for his Clos St. Philibert on steep slopes overlooking Nuit St. Georges over 25 years ago from carefully selected Chardonnay clones. Domaine Méo-Camuzet has expanded its line of 'vins de négoce' in recent years. These wines are bottled under the 'Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs' label.Read less
