En Primeur | Spotlight on Gevrey Chambertin
The northernmost of the great Côte de Nuits communes, Gevrey Chambertin is home to some of the most revered names in Burgundy. The commune covers 450 hectares of vines, 55 of which span eight Grands Crus vineyards. It produces robust yet refined Pinot Noir, with an outstanding propensity for ageing. Goedhuis, December 2021
This is a fine cuvée made from the eight different parcels of Gevrey Chambertin that the domaine owns in the village. Enticing loganberry and blueberry fruits, this shows off the warmth of the summer, balancing its ripe fruit with a vibrant freshness from their early picking policy. Sweet and full of vitality, with a soothing finish.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a straightforward bouquet with brambly red fruit with a touch of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly lactic entry, lower in acidity than maybe other cuvées though the fleshiness on the finish is appealing. Quite pure too. Drink 2024 - 2034

Burghound, January 2022, Score: 89-91
A very fresh if somber nose combines notes of ripe red and dark currant with hints of the sauvage and forest floor. There is excellent richness to the appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that exude a more subtle minerality on the rustic, complex and sneaky long finish. This too offers fine quality for its level. Outstanding. Drink: 2028+

Medium deep purple, the nose is not as sensual as chez Ghislaine Barthod. But then more starts to come out. Plenty of ripe raspberry and just a slightly drier finish.

Goedhuis, December 2021
4 hectares of village Gevrey Chambertin in ten different locations is a sizeable parcel and, as a result, this cuvée is always a classic example of the appellation. Always a lovely start to the tasting at the domaine, a full and expressive style with an abundance of tayberry and loganberry, good deep intensity and charming rounded tannins.

Equally ripe and fresh aromas are comprised by notes of poached plum, violet and a discreet but perceptible touch of wood. The bright, vibrant and delicious medium weight flavors possess solid density while offering just a bit more overall depth and persistence. Drink: 2027+

Ripe, smooth, harmonious and balanced, this is a workmanlike Gevrey that ticks the boxes and little more.
2020 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Christian Sérafin
£315.00 In Bond £394.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2021
This superb wine embodies the ethos of Domaine Serafin, coming from two different plots in the appellation, one with vines of 70 years old and the other just over 100 years. A hugely complex wine, with layers of dark smoky fruits, bilberry and huckleberry. Firm and intense, the powerful fruit is enriched by a faint hint of vanilla oak, giving a pleasing sense of sweetness. This will evolve in bottle to show real pedigree.
2020 Gevrey Chambertin En Champs Geantet Pansiot

Goedhuis, December 2021
This is a highly respected lieu-dit, at the northern end of the village sitting just below 1er Cru Champeaux. Bursting with dark Black Forest fruits, a very rich and full style, which coats the palate. The tannins are ripe and full, and some light acidity keeps everything perfectly in check.

En Champs has much deeper set fruit than the VV, and it is more backward, too, so these two make quite a good pair in your cellar. A little more closed and tense but nice and deep on the mid-palate, this is a suave number, and it is sure to impress with its power and depth.
