    Just below Richebourg, this vineyard has deep rich layers of clay and the wine always shows the striking cranberry and red cherry fruits typical of Vosne Romanée. Initially harmonious and graceful, it builds in power and complexity. A very concentrated and classy grand cru with great length.

    This 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a curious menthol-tinged bouquet offering plenty of fruit concentration to the mixture of red cherries, blueberry and cassis. Very opulent; maybe too much. The palate is sweet and candied, and there is quite a lot of new oak here and a lot of extraction. Powerful and virile, though de l'Arlot's RSV exhibits more finesse and precision toward the finish. Maybe bottle age will temper its youthful decadence. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.     The 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, matured in just under 50% new oak, has a pixelated bouquet of dark cherries, bergamot, hints of vervain tea and crushed stone, turning more floral as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple, saturated tannin, and quite rich in style but effortlessly counterbalanced by a fine line of acidity. Velvety smooth and with a hint of dark chocolate toward the finish, this is a superb offering from the domaine. Sophisticated and sensual, just as a Romanée-Saint-Vivant ought to be. 2022 - 2045

    Light reduction is just enough to mask the detail of the spicy red berry fruit aromas. By contrast there is excellent vibrancy to beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess a silky mouthfeel that continues onto the dusty, linear, youthfully austere and long finish that displays really lovely balance. The complexity is dazzling and this understated effort is impressive. Drink 2032+

    The 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is superb, wafting from the glass with aromas of blood orange, spices, wild berries, rose petal and raspberries. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional with excellent depth, concentration and purity. Layered and seamless, it concludes with a long, soil-driven finish. The inherent elegance of Romanée-Saint-Vivant works hand-in-hand with the vintage.

    This 1920 parcel is situated in the northern part of the Romanée-St-Vivant grand cru, very close to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's holdings - and it's often a match for that wine. It's detailed, lacy and refreshing, with adroitly integrated 50% new wood and layers of red cherry, raspberry and red plum fruit. It has focussed acidity and palate-caressing tannins. The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. Romanée Saint Vivant

Romanée-St-Vivant, which takes its name from the monastery of St-Vivant founded in c. 900, is a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. It is the largest of Vosne-Romanée's six Grands Crus and produces red wine only. The vineyard is located on the slope to the north of the town of Vosne-Romanée and is the nearest vineyard to this village. Romanée-Saint-Vivant's soils are deep and rich in clay and lime, which means the wines of Romanée-St-Vivant are usually lighter and less powerful than its neighbours'. Domaine de la Romanée Conti is the largest proprietor, owning over half of the area's 9.5 ha.
