  • Goedhuis, January 2011

Undoubtedly a contender for one of my wines of the vintage, this is a truly fabulous wine and shows why so many people are describing 2009 as a Nuits year. Lovely intense loganberry and raspberry aromas, this is full of intense ripe fruit, rich and flamboyant whilst also incredibly structured due to the tiny berries from these 70-year-old vines. A truly great wine in the making.

  • Burghound, January 2011, Score: 92-94

A more deeply pitched nose offers up notes of wood spice, earth and plum aromas that are, not surprisingly, less elegant but denser as are the serious, concentrated and powerful medium weight plus flavors that benefit from seemingly endless amounts of sap yet the hugely long finish is still quite firm. This should age extremely well though patience will be required. Drink: 2019+.Comments: sweet spot outstanding!

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2011, Score: 17

65-year-old vines. Bright crimson with some real depth as well as the sweetness. I'm convinced thisone will last. Perfume, lift and sap with just the slightest hint of oak. Real life and structure. There was lots of millerandage in this parcel below Perrot Minot's and not far from VosneMalconsorts.

  • Tim Atkin, February 2011, Score: 97

One of the softer, sweeter wines in the Cathiard range in 2009, despite thelow-yielding old vines. Soft, creamy and very fine with intense raspberry and wildstrawberry fruit.

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
