Goedhuis, December 2019
The vineyards of Mazis Chambertin sit between Clos de Bèze Grand Cru and the village of Gevrey Chambertin. Its deep brown soil is known for making wines with a superb ability to age. A very layered wine with dark Black Forest flavours. The full tannins combine well with hints of sweet spiced oak. Lots of volume, very giving and very full.

Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 91
The 2018 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a high-toned, showy bouquet with red plum, raspberry coulis and orange rind scents, a touch of Indian ink emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a fine bead of acidity with a muscular finish that will hopefully muster more finesse with time. Drink 2024-2038

The Tortochot family have been respected vignerons in Gevrey Chambertin since the 19th century, but it is in recent times, under the stewardship of Chantal Tortochot, that key changes have taken place. Previously Chantal Tortochot’s father Gabriel sold most of his fruit to the famous Beaune négociant, Joseph Drouhin. Since taking over in 2001 Chantal has been carefully and surely building the domaine’s name and reputation around the world. In 2008 she made the next step by beginning conversion of her 12 hectares to fully organic practices, which was certifed in 2013. Since 2016 Chantal has incorporated up to 25% whole bunch fermented fruit, allowing the mineral salts imparted by the stems to give a vibrant freshness to her wines.Read less

Mazis Chambertin
Mazis-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the north of the Grand Cru area of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyard lies on a limestone subsoil, topped with brown, chalky soil. It is sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Mazis-Chambertin is very aromatic, dark in colour and long lasting.
